Grayling performs in acoustic settings with an arch-top jazz guitar similar to models made in the 1940´s. Her musical style has been described as early jazz, vaudeville, gypsy rockabilly and bluegrass at times. On occasion, she sings with a small band including double bass, baritone guitar and keys.

Living in a relatively small place but with prominent visitors has had its up side: G has jammed with Larry Carlton at the university, met Neneh Cherry under bylarm Oslo, and has enjoyed hanging out with Joel Hamilton (Studio G Brooklyn) and Sasha Dobson (Puss n Boots, T&T Brooklyn) at the NRK studios in Stavanger on a recording technique/studio workshop as part of Nordic Music Week. Inspiration she is grateful for.

Grayling is an active participant in the Open Mic Scene at Martinique, Stavanger which is staged on the first Thursday of every month. See their website for updates about Open Mic.

Background

G grew up with access to a piano and guitar upon which she improvised and composed from an early age. From ages 13-17 years she trained classical and popular voice at comprehensive school which gave her the opportunity to perform regularly in different choirs, groups and ensembles.

G only began performing her own song material publicly after moving to Norway in 2004/5, when college friend Trond Eltervaag overtook as manager of the venue Martinique in Stavanger, and invited her to play at Open Mic.
